Our Child Development and Social Work placements provide assistance in a range of environments – community projects, day care centres, children’s homes, after school programmess, outreach and feeding programmess.
Work is led by local staff and tasks vary depending on the specific placement, but generally involve providing personalised attention, mentoring, educational support, or playing games and assisting with daily operations.
The objective of these projects is to provide operational support to under-resourced childcare centres, while fostering a two-way cultural exchange between international students and professionals, children and staff at the centres.
You can feel confident that you will have a meaningful impact, while developing your global awareness and opening the minds of the children to new cultures and possibilities.
“I learned so much about my studies when I put my Social Work degree into practice in South Africa. It helped me apply for further education and I was accepted onto an MBA in Social Work following my placement. Volunteer Invest were so supportive and I loved all the staff on my placement. I couldn’t have wished for a more immersive experience”

“It was overwhelming at times, but I like children and I get on well with them so I didn’t have a problem. We’d help with their pre-school needs and then in the evening help with feedings, bathing and bedtime routines. These were some really challenging children, but it was very rewarding to work so closely with them.”
